The Second Edition

I’m not above a little marketing, so I’ll dedicate this one short post to providing some information about the upcoming second edition of my book, “Resilient Space Systems Design: An Introduction.,” available, as they say, at fine booksellers worldwide starting with a pre-order May 26, 2026, and shipping after June 16. If you stopped by the home page on the way here you saw a link which leads to the publisher (CRC Press/Routledge) site.

So why a second edition? The short answer is that my publisher asked me for an update. The longer answer is that the world continues to change and the first edition, published in 2019, while still accurate (for the most part), could be improved on. In addition to the usual correction of some errata I’ve continued to work on better communicating the concepts associated with resilient design for space and feel that this updated edition better conveys them. There is also considerable new content based on ideas I’ve developed over the past six years. The book has gone from about 180 pages to 240 pages with much of that dedicated to evolving the methodology presented. Some of it is extrapolation, while other ideas stretch the bounds of what was previously shown.

I would not have moved forward with this new edition if I didn’t feel that it substantially raises the bar in terms of value. I’m hoping my readership agrees. I also continue to hope that the book will foster a broader discussion within the space community regarding resilience: how it is defined, evaluated, measured, calculated, and considered to design more resilient future space systems. If the new edition fills a need and provides some useful guidance then I have achieved my purpose.
